Course Information:

  • Text: “Mathematical logic and set theory” Notes by D.A. Martin. 

  • Course Description: In the first half of the course, we will cover Section5 of the notes, which treat Recursion Theory.  In the second half of the course, we will cover Effective Descriptive Set Theory.  I will not follow any specific text, but Moschovakis' book Descriptive Set Theory (Second edition) is a good resource, although it covers much more than we will cover.  Here is a pdf copy of the book as well as a link to purchase the book

  • Class Meetings: There will be 2 class meetings every week:  Tuesday and Thursday, 10-11:20 in RH 340N.

  • Homework: There will be 3 problem sets due on the Fridays of Weeks 3, 6, and 9. While there will be around 8-10 problems assigned for each set, I will only grade 4 problems from each set. Each problem will be worth 25 points, making each problem set worth 100 points.  Please type up your solutions to the assignments.  Assignments will be uploaded to Canvas and will be due at 10pm.

  • Final Exam There will be a take-home final exam given to you on Monday, June 9 in class and due Monday, June 16, by 10am. The final exam will also be worth 100 points.

    Any curving will take place after the final exam and will be at the discretion of the instructor.
