Instructions

This short quiz is designed for you to see how you fare on some key concepts (predominantly from 51A) that will be critical to the material in this class. It is due by end of day on Friday 2 April (week 1), because doing it later than that is really pointless. This quiz does not count toward your grade; it is for your information only!

The major sections of the textbook that should be reviewed, regardless of how you do on this quiz, are:

Chapter 1, sections 1.3–1.6, especially resonance

Chapter 2, the whole thing on acids and bases, including Lewis acids/bases

Chapter 6, the whole thing about understanding organic reactions

If there are two things that are most important, they are:

(1) understanding how to use curved arrows for resonance structures and reactions

(2) having a good comprehension of all kinds of acid/base chemistry.

It should be obvious from any problems that you answer incorrectly which concepts you should review. To have a solid footing for Chem 51C, you really should be able to answer all of these problems correctly.
