Welcome to Chemistry 152 !

Welcome to Chem 152! I'm excited to get started with a busy, but hopefully productive and enjoyable, quarter.

First things first, please make sure to familiarize yourself with the course Canvas site, including the syllabus and the schedule of assignments that we'll do. The "Home" and "Assignments" pages (the links are on the left-hand side of the screen) will be the first ones you'll want to visit.

The "Home" link provides a week-by-week guide (and links) to the assignments that will be covered in class and due at various times throughout the quarter. Under "START" (this week), for example, you'll see that the homework for this week is to read the syllabus and complete a short syllabus quiz, and also to do an online assignment on recognizing plagiarism.

For this first week, I am giving you an additional assignment: Click on the "People" link and add a few words (no more than 200 words) of self-introduction to your biography--maybe include something about your major, your hometown, your career goals, and one unique and interesting fact about yourself. Consider adding a photo or avatar to your profile, too. I'm hoping that this will help us get to know each other a little better, since we're missing out on all the normal face-to-face interaction in this course. I've already done this homework assignment, and you can see my profile here.

The quarter moves quickly, and we have a lot to accomplish! Everything on the syllabus is doable, and if you stay on top of things, it's possible for everyone in the class to pass, and indeed to get an A. I understand that there's a lot going on in everyone's lives right now that's not directly related to Chemistry 152, and I encourage you to get in touch with me if circumstances make it hard for you to demonstrate your learning effectively. I will try my best to make accommodations and provide any help that I can. Your success and learning in this course is my main goal.
