Midterm 1 Exam Information

Updated 9.23.21

Please find the most up-to-date midterm exam information here.

  1. The first midterm covers these lectures:
    1. Elements
    2. Bonds and Polarity
    3. Biomolecules 1
    4. Biomolecules 2
    5. Membrane Structure
    6. Membrane Transport and Osmosis
    7. Cytoskeleton
    8. Organelles
    9. Basics of Experimental Design
  2. There will be 3-4 multiple choice or multiple right answer questions per lecture for a total of 27-30 questions.
  3. The midterm will begin at the start of YOUR class time (Lecture A = 12pm, Lecture B = 1pm).
  4. The exam is online. You can take the exam wherever you want.
  5. A Canvas quiz will be used, and you will have 50 minutes. It will be listed in the week's module and will open and close automatically.
  6. You can use your notes, book and internet for the exam (digital or paper), but time is very tight and the questions are not simple vocab. You cannot message or talk to another person during the exam. Group notes are okay for studying, but download your own copy before the exam so you aren't tempted to group chat/comment.
  7. No lockdown browser is necessary.
  8. I will be in the lecture hall (PSLH 100) during the exams if you want a quiet place to take the test and an instructor to ask questions of. If you are not in the lecture hall you can use email for questions (adriw@uci.edu) but it will be slower.
  9. Students have had trouble viewing images in Canvas Quizzes in Safari. Use a different browser just in case.
  10. If you have a DSC accommodation, I will give you your extra time AFTER the class time. You must email me if you need the exam to start before class time.

For practice exam questions, see all the PollEverywhere questions from lecture. I have also created short practice exams that will open the week of the exam for you to "take" in a realistic environment.
