[There are many creative ways you can design online assignments to engage your students and enhance their learning experience. Ideas include:

  • Use a blog as a platform to encourage students to reflect on their learning in weekly blog posts
  • Encourage data analyzation and information literacy by having students summarize knowledge and data by creating an infographic
  • Appeal to visual students by giving students the choice to submit a comic strip, magazine cover or videoblog instead of a writing assignment
  • Give students the opportunity to practice digital productivity skills by asking them to demonstrate their learning through: creating a marketing slideshow presentation, organizing their thoughts and demonstrating connections through a Mind Map, using a digital whiteboard to brainstorm and collaborate

For more ideas and information refer to: Rethinking Your Assignments for Online Learning

Finally, when designing assignments try to incorporate elements of transparent assignment design; this includes clearly communicating the purpose of the assignment, the task to be accomplished and criteria of how students will be assessed.
