Book: The primary textbook will be Abstract Algebra, Third Edition, by D. Dummit and R. Foote - we will cover Chapter 14 (but in a different order). Errata. We might use some other sources, such as http://www.jmilne.org/math/CourseNotes/FT.pdf (Notes by Milne on field theory). For the part on representation theory, we will use Serre, Linear Representations of Finite Groups . We will cover sections
1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5
2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5
3.1, 3.2
5.1, 5.3, 5.7, 5.8

Grading policy: 20% homework, 20% participation second half (showing solutions to problems, being present, commenting on solutions), 60% final.

Homework:  You are encouraged to work together, but you should write down the solutions yourself. Also, acknowledge any sources, except Dummit and Foote. Write down names of collaborators.

Note:
Exercises Galois theory from sheet for HW: 2,3,4,6,7,8,9,10,13,17,18,21,23,26,27,28,29,30,31
