UCI Compass Community of Practice Book Club on The Abundant University: Remaking Higher Education for a Digital World. Session 2 - Admissions was held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, 1:00-2:00pm PT

We were honored to have Tony Hwang, Executive Director (UCI Enrollment Management), speaking to the group about UCI's endeavors to integrate VR/XR technologies into a hybrid work modality and to bring meaningful benefits to student learning. The collaborative group of UCI colleagues from multiple departments have been testing to determine if these technologies can be leveraged to benefit or improve productivity, specifically around (1) Social Connection; (2) Collaboration; and (3) Engagement. The projects are sponsored by and conducted through the Office of Enrollment Management, and supported by UCI’s Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Data & Chief Digital Officer, Tom Andriola.

All sessions will be virtual and recorded for those who cannot attend a session. The book is available online through UCI Libraries. Links to an external site. I have also added a pdf to this invite. Information on previous / subsequent sessions will follow.

If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to contact the UCI Compass Community of Practice team at compasscop@uci.edu.

Bio

Tony supports the Vice Provost of Enrollment Management in developing and executing the strategic enrollment management plan. He guides, supports, and assesses new and existing strategic initiatives and provides leadership and support to meet strategic enrollment goals. Tony oversees the data analytics unit and manages OEM information systems.

Prior to joining Enrollment Management, he directed the federal TRIO program, Upward Bound, to help support and increase the college-going rates for low-income and first-generation students. He began his advocacy of underrepresented students in higher education by first, working directly with students and their families through the UC’s outreach efforts, then through programming and curriculum development, and eventually moving into the space where he can participate in campus operations and policy setting.
