Please throw comments in the chat
11:13:04 From Tawana Washington (she/her) to Everyone:
My central takeaway from Michael’s talk was his overall concern for the future of higher ed. What I mean by concern is the ability and willingness for academia to change.
11:13:40 From Tim Harris to Everyone:
I felt that there were some practical questions that would have been interesting to consider. For example, how would the model be funded?
11:16:59 From Tim Harris to Everyone:
This question was asked in other sessions, but I would like to hear your thoughts: How should areas be handled where physical presence is necessary? For example, I don't see how team sports and the physically of actually playing could be done virtually. Research labs cannot be created and utilized remotely with the current technology level.

I suggest that this is a turning point where the industry is changing. Just as the physical bookstores died when Amazon came along, what will happen to UCI if we risk becoming obsolete or irrelevant?
Tim Harris to Everyone 11:38 AM
UCI is a premiere, leading edge university. We don't want to be another "Me too!"
You 11:40 AM
Absolutely!!

Something else Michael Dennin mentioned is the blending of being an educational university and a research university. Your thoughts?
the focus on getting employable skills risks losing the cultural aspects. Very few people are employed in the study of Shakespeare's writing but it is of great interest/value to many people. It would be tragic to lose the culture...
You to Everyone 11:47 AM
And how do we get an organization-wide change in perspective around the power of POSITIVE disruption?
Tim Harris to Everyone 11:53 AM
There is a book called, "Who Moved My Cheese" that speaks well toward overcoming resistance to change and why people resist.
You 11:54 AM
