The RIP project was, personally, the best part of the class. This project helped me to see how everything was meant to fit in together. While working on this project I realized that the RA came first because it was the foundation for us to find meaning in Genre conventions and to be able to find them and analyze their purpose/usefulness. Another thing I noticed with this project was that any type of work will have some sort of conventions which people abide by to classify their works. This can be very useful, because if you want to recreate a specific type of work, you can then look at real life models and analyze the choices that were made and to what extent. This understanding of analyzing conventions is present in my RIP where I tried to take all these effective conventions from different time periods in history. For instance, my art style was inspired by comic books in the early 20th century, which was very effective to attract a young audience. Then, my sarcastic tone was inspired by the Silver Age, an age in which comics were silly and comical. I found this interesting because humor is always a great way to draw in a young audience. Then the seriousness of the idea of sexism, domesticity, and gender inequality was drawn from the Bronze Age, when comics reflected social issues. So by analyzing and reading articles that explained what conventions made comic books successful through the years, I decided to include them all and create my own satirical comic book aimed towards a young female audience.
