Book and covered material: The course will follow the book `Linear Algebra and its applications', Davix C. Lay, Steven R. Lay, Judi J. MacDonald, 5th edition. We will cover chapters 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. This website will be updated with a precise list of things which we have covered during the class and with a list of homework problems.
Grading policy: 10% homework, 20% quizzes, 15% midterm 1, 15% midterm 2, 40% final exam.
Homework: The homework consists of 2 parts: exercises from the book, and some exercises on an extra sheet. 70% of the grade is based on completeness of the exercises from the book, 30% is based on the exercises from the sheet. These extra exercises will be checked carefully (so show that you did all the work there)! The lowest grade will be dropped. Homework should be handed in on Thursday at the beginning of the discussion session (see dates below). In the schedule below, one can see the exercises for the homework. We encourage students to work together on the homework - copying homework from others is not allowed.
Quiz: Quizzes are usually on Tuesday (see schedule) during the discussion session. The quiz will cover mostly exercises similar to the homework handed in on that day. The lowest grade will be dropped.
Midterm and final exam: The first midterm will cover the material up to the first midterm. The second midterm will cover the material between first and second midterm. The final exam will cover all the material.
Special rules: If you miss a quiz or homework due to illness, show a doctor's note to the TA and we can make special arrangements. If you join the course late, directly contact the TA directly to make up homework an some quizzes.
The syllabus page shows a table-oriented view of the course schedule, and the basics of
course grading. You can add any other comments, notes, or thoughts you have about the course
structure, course policies or anything else.
