Course Information:

  • Text: A Course in Functional Analysis (2007 Edition) by John Conway

  • Course Description: In the first two quarters, we will cover a large portion of the Conway book, with our ultimate goal being the Spectral Theorem for Normal Bounded Operators.  The third quarter will be devoted to an introduction to operator algebras.

  • Class Meetings: The class meets twice a week:  Tuesday and Thursday, 11-12:20 in RH 306.

  • Grading will be based solely on three problem sets, due the Fridays of Weeks 3, 6, and 10.   You may work together on the problems, but please acknowledge who you worked with on each problem.  I highly encourage you to type up your solutions using LaTex.
