  1. All the Money in the World
Link Links to an external site. This movie is most famous for the fact that Kevin Spacey's role was removed from it (after filming was finished!) and replaced by Christopher Plummer.  It seems most likely to get nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Christopher Plummer.  It's kind of hard to tell how much of that is because his performance is great and how much it's as a condemnation of Kevin Spacey.  (0:38-1:05)
  2. Baby DriverLink Links to an external site.2:35-3:05Baby Driver is an action-packed movie which stars Baby who is indebted to Doc to drive the crews he puts together to pull off heists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMdzBwsZRX8 Links to an external site. (0:37-1:00)

This sports comedy is based on a true story about the tennis match in 1973 between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Both Steve Carell and Emma Stone was nominated for a Golden Globes (Best Actor and Actress in a Musical or Comedy). I don’t think it’s very likely that the movie will receive any Oscars nominations, because there are other performances that are stronger this year.

https://youtu.be/yv74LqiumXE?t=1m24s Links to an external site.

“Detroit” is a film based on a true story that graphically portrays riots that occured in Detroit, Michigan in 1968. This clip of the movie portrays the chaotic, and unjust actions the police took in trying to “tame” the riots. The riots began because police raided an unlicensed club during a celebration for returning black veterans. Throughout the film, you can see the harsh tension the police and the black citizens had. The movie discovers themes of racism, violence, and racial stereotyping. It brings attention to the unjust morals and prejudice many Americans had at the time, as well as the parallelism in today’s society.
  11. The Disaster Artist https://youtu.be/cMKX2tE5Luk?t=44s Links to an external site. This movie is based on a true story about the making of The Room, which is considered the best worst movie ever made. James Franco's portrayal of Tommy Wiseau is generating a lot of awards buzz as a result of his commitment to the part. He won a Golden Globe and will likely get a Best Leading Actor nomination when the Oscars nominations are announced. (0:44-1:13)

  13. Dunkirk
https://youtu.be/T7O7BtBnsG4?t=1m43s Links to an external site.

Dunkirk is a non-traditional war movie. Rather than focusing on a struggle between two enemies, it focuses on a battle against time. The entire film holds true to history with the exception of a few minor details, many of which involve altered sets where the director (Christopher Nolan Links to an external site.) chose to film in the real locations, including the town of Dunkirk, which have changed over time. The story in told from three perspectives to seemingly simplify the complex battle. It seems most likely to be in the running for best director due to Christopher Nolan Links to an external site.'s totally unique approach to telling a war story.

  1. I, Tonya ----- I, Tonya recaps the crazy true story of Tonya Harding, an American Figure Skater, infamous for her role in the assault of her teammate, Nancy Kerrigan. In a unique form of storytelling, this movie uses techniques like breaking the fourth wall, interviews, and a splint genre that is not clearly comedy nor drama. The actor and actresses have the added challenge of imitating real persons with only limited interview footage to go off of. Additionally, the added complication of ice skating and combat stunts makes this movie a great platform for the actor to do their jobs and convey emotions of sympathy, embarrassment, and anger onto the audience. 3. Logan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Div0iP65aZo Links to an external site. Logan is about a popular hero who tries to protect his daughter from being used as a weapon.  Out of all the X-men movies, Logan is the best because Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart give their best and sadly last performances as comic book characters. Unfortunately, Hugh Jackman might not be able to win best actor because of the many competitors for this year, such as Kumail Nanjiani and Daniel Kaluuya. Although, Patrick Stewart can stand a chance and be able to win best supporting actor with his captivating acting through the film.

The director Darren Aronofsky is an interesting director and also Jennifer Lawrence’s performance in the movie is an eye opener.
