Captain America: Civil War: EW review

The highly anticipated Civil War of the Avengers, between Cap and Tony, just went down this past Friday on the release of the new movie that is added to the ever growing Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU from now on. This third Captain America installment takes place after the attack of Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which Ultron wanted to destroy the entire human race. The audience is enticed to pick a side, Team Cap or Team Tony in the conflict that will be the drive of the movie. However, within this conflict there was the usual humor that Marvel likes to use in their movies to lighten the mood and keep the audience engaged. Various battles were fought that involved Avengers on both sides of the battlefield, up against each other.

Civil War begins in the midst of an Avengers mission in Lagos that turns into a chase through the city for the item that was stolen. However, here the director, begins to introduce the reasons behind the eventual internal conflict that the Avengers will face. Following the mission, and civilians from Wakanda being killed, the United Nations set up the tool to split the Avengers in half, the Sokovia Accords. The Sokovia Accords, is a legal act of the UN, to monitor the actions of the Avengers and to avoid further casualties, like those in Lagos, or the events of Avengers 1 and 2. This sparks the conflict between Cap, who wants to have the liberty to choose who and what to protect, and Tony, who wants the Avengers to be reigned in from the limitless boundaries. Then with the attack on the UN meeting that is blamed on the Winter Soldier, Cap’s longtime friend, Cap sides with “Bucky” and must fight against Tony, who is told to take down both Cap and the Winter Soldier.

Then the action of the movie starts to pick up and fists are exchanged with the introduction of one of the new heroes, Black Panther. Black Panther has become the most anticipated character to be featured in Civil War, and rightful so, with an amazing figthing style and great sense of humor. Plus, on top of the amazing introduction of Black Panther, we get another new character that is a crowd favorite, the humorous, nerdy, young, Spider-Man. The portrayal of both characters is very reminiscent of the Marvel Comics versions of these two heroes. With the each side getting their teams together for the most anticipated battle of the movie, Team Cap vs. Team Tony. The battle was spectacular, with entertaining action and the humorous exchanges between friends turned foes, the brawl ends up being a bit too short compared to the buzz that was built in anticipation to the fight. However, the final battle between both, Cap and the Winter Soldier, versus Iron Man was the shining factor of the film, highlighting both the weaknesses and strengths of each character. The climactic battle ends with neither side coming out victorious and a division that will lead to the events of the confirmed film, Avengers: Infinity War.

Civil War has served its purpose of being the connection to the next Phase of the MCU, and the introduction of Thanos, the main villain that encompasses the entirety of the MCU. With  the new heroes being added to the team, Black Panther and Spider-Man, paired with the action-packed scenes, and also the humor that is staple in Marvel movies. All come together to create an outstanding movie that is worth watching. A

With the help of the professor in conferences and the help of my peers advice, I managed to create the movie review that became my RIP project. At first, I was not staying to character, I needed to be someone who was evaluating the movie as a way to let others know if they should see it or not. However, my initial draft consisted of too many spoilers that could ruin the experience for the readers who have not seen the movie yet. Even though I got ride of most of the spoilers that were major, the professor helped me find the tiny details that could probably be best to leave out of the final draft.
