Welcome to the part about my RIP proposal! To be frank, the end result of my RIP project quintessentially performed what I had for intended: it introduced and subconsciously familiarized the audience of the west and its conventions. When the project was first introduced to the class- I knew my main goal was to incorporate my art skills. However, after many thought processes- I decided on an animation.

In RIP exercise #6, I discussed and used an example of the same question-and-answer structure I was trying to use for my animation. After watching this sample video, it helped me realize that a question and answer video can educate you with enough information, that you can induce the individual's environment, elements of their mindset, culture, and also more about the person's personality. This helped me solidify an idea of my animation and construct the purpose of learning about western through this medium.

RIP Proposal

For my rhetoric-in-practice project, I intend on making a question and answer (Q&A) themed video through my own animation and artwork. I will be using the character Jack Twist from Brokeback Mountain as the youtuber to answer these questions; I will try my best to mimic his personality from the novel but I will also try to incorporate characteristics that many Western cowboy characters possess. With this, I will select questions that Jack will answer carefully that they also let you get to know Jack and western conventions, philosophy, and mannerisms. The purpose of my video is to enable a sense of understanding of Western cowboy culture to the audience subconsciously through Jack’s answers. This video is meant to be entertaining so I will include light humor and try to make the experience of watching it as realistic as normal, regular content popular youtubers upload today.

My audience and intended demographic is typically younger, teenagers who religiously stan figures on YouTube influencers for their personas as well as many cowboy viewers, a western community that uses YouTube as an outlet to share western fashion, trends, and advice that have access to the Internet. The time period is more modern so there will be emphasis on neo-Western based attributes.

I am the animator of this video, but I will manipulate aspects that are featured in the clip while also controlling Jack’s dialogue. One could say that, in a sense, that I am Jack. I will put effort into portraying his persona to a degree but overall, it is my plan to make sure the audience has a crafted impression of the western habits and environment. My message is that there the western culture has an effect on contemporary culture, even on today’s society; therefore, the western genre will always influence popular culture.
