So far, I really like my paper. I definitely think it could be stronger, and more neutral, but it’s just a hard topic to stay neutral on when I have such strong feelings about vaccines. I know what is being asked of me, and I feel like I have a pretty good handle on things, I just need to reword, and perhaps change the tone a little so it’s not so obvious that none of the research on the “anti-vaccination” movement has changed my mind, only solidified what I believe. Research is going a little better, I had some trouble getting academic sources at first, but I found some very useful references on the CDC’s website that led me to some great resources. The hardest part of this paper is to save the advocacy for the next paper; that, and having to read about all the horrible things that anti-vaxxers have said, particularly towards people with autism. This is such a hotly debated topic, even in my own family, it’s interesting to be able to lay out all the arguments and completely discredit the unreasonable ones, but give a voice to the free speech side of things.

I don’t want my paper to make it sound like I hate parents that don’t vaccinate their kids, I would like to be able to give them a little more credit, but it’s hard to be reasonable with them when most of their argument is completely unreasonable. At first, I thought I was going to be able to go into the HPV vaccine, which is not mandatory but still highly encouraged; however I already have so much to talk about, I think I’ll have to leave that part out of my paper. I think I need to incorporate more of the “serious sources,” and less news sources, as well as fix the numerous grammar and typo errors that I noticed reading through my draft today.
