REFLECTION

Okay since this artifact is an image upload, my reflection will be in the beginning.

This mini RIP activity we did in class helped me see how the RIP project would be like. This gave me a little flavor of what was to come in the future. Craigslist ads are very simple and direct, so my group recreated this tone and style by using simple sentences and getting right to the point. I also learned how to target specific audiences, like using Christmas pudding to appeal to the Cockatoucan or using pirate slang to appeal to pirates. Following genre conventions are also important when trying to convey a message because certain audiences are found in certain genres. For example, people on craigslist want to know what the seller has to offer without having to read between the lines. Because of this, the ads on craigslist tend to be simple and direct. These genre conventions created from the audience's expectations contribute towards effective communication. Most people on craigslist won't waste their time trying to figure out the price of something you're selling, or what you even are selling. If your ad is short and simple, people are more likely to take your offer. Through this mini exercise, I learned how to appeal to different audiences and how to use genres to write effectively to convey my message.
