RIP #1 My Unnatural Creature

Within the dark, misty forest lives a creature that aimlessly wanders night and day. If it ever encounters someone or something, it quickly runs away and hides until it is finally alone again. Only few people have seen this creature. Those that have say its eyes are gray and dull, its skin dry and flaky, its body small and trembling. Despite these features, people say its eyes are big, friendly, yet lonely, as if its asking for something.

In the daytime, this creature scours the land far and wide for food to eat. It'll eat anything, from plants, mushrooms, berries, or meat. Although it's small, this creature's stomach shouldn't be underestimated. During the night, its cries can be heard from miles away as it wanders alone.

REFLECTION

This was the first creative writing I've done in a while, so my skills were very rusty. I didn't know what to write and how I should write, so I ended up writing whatever came to my mind like a stream of consciousness. Reading this again made me cringe so much. I had no direction of where I wanted to go and my writing was very dull with no flavor. Jumping right back into writing after summer vacation had its effects, as my voice and style are not at their prime here. I've definitely improved since then, and its thanks to the creativity that was encouraged in this quarter. Comparing this to my RIP project shows how much I grew as a writer. I've gotten familiar with creative writing and I'm no longer afraid of it. I learned that creative writing takes thought and not just a stream of consciousness. I learned how to express my thoughts and let my imagination run free.
