Aswan High Dam | Description, History, Capacity, Problems, & Facts | Britannica

2022 Spring Quarter UCI

Welcome to my Writing 39C ePortfolio. Here, I will hone my research and argumentation skills as I navigate through the myriad of sources to polish up my essays. Have fun reading!

About me

My name is Por and I am an international sophomore student here at UC Irvine. I am a hardworking, dedicated student who is willing to learn new things. I am currently an engineering major in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering.

About the class

Writing 39C is a lower-division writing class, part of the Department of Composition in UC Irvine's School of Humanities. It is the final class in the three-part Writing 39 A-B-C series (or two-part if you take Writing 37, which combines 39A and 39B into one rigorous course like I did).

By the end of the course, I should be able to conduct research independently on my own to craft a unique argument that supports a particular stance.

The course's theme is Techno-ecologies of the Anthropocene. In my opinion, this theme represents a fascinating insight into the clash between humanist and species-oriented perspectives on climate change and shows that even amongst scholars that generally have uniform acceptance of climate change and global warming, there is still vigorous debate on how to characterize human activities.

My research topic is the Aswan High Dam in Egypt (pictured above) which was built to control the flow of the Nile river. I wrote about the anthropogenic impacts of the dam on the environmental, sociocultural, and political aspects of the Nile Delta region. I even advocated for solutions to solve the problems by connecting those conclusions to how we can solve California's water crisis.
