Hello dear friends,

My portfolio here encompasses a series of moments in my life where I have needed to self reflect and analyze. It is a collection of pieces that reflect my journey and lessons I have learned not only as a writer but as a person through my experiences thus far in life. This class has taught me to explore my creativity in a new light. I was able to discover and understand new things not only about myself but about the people that surround me on a day to day basis.

I am here to share with you the progress in which I have made in terms of my ability to be able to communicate with you my reader in a more effective manner. I believe that throughout this course I was able to increase the amount of detail I added which  has helped add depth to some of my favorite pieces.

My biggest struggle most definitely has to be correctly putting citations in my writing and being grammatically correct with some of my word choices. However, I firmly believe I was able to increase my abilities in doing this better as I wrote nonfiction pieces and analysis in many Metacognitive Reflections which required me to do so.

Another key realization I've made is that I am now more confident in expressing my thoughts and opinions. As we were asked to write about our opinions on how we think online school during the pandemic affected us, I instantly knew I had a lot to say on this subject because I went through that experience myself along with all my classmates. I suppose I used to be afraid of having to appeal to what I thought was the general consensus of many people. I'll say it again: I can tell the difference in my writing pieces between those about themes I'm enthusiastic about and those that I feel need to be done for the sake of being done.

I think I've discovered I love an opinion piece. I think when the passion is there and I feel a certain way about a subject, the content floods my brain. Although I still have difficulty putting the piece together grammatically, I enjoy writing and understanding different perspectives.

What Writers Really Do When They Write, by George Saunders, underlines the necessity of not trying to outsmart or seem intelligent in front of your readers. This is something I strive to avoid doing in my writing because it will most likely bother the reader. In my writing, I attempt to be transparent and honest in the hopes that some element of it will resonate with the reader and that they may benefit from my experiences.

I definitely have to say writing is not something that comes naturally for me. To be any good at anything, I believe I must devote a significant amount of time and thinking to it. This quarter especially I was going through some very difficult moments at home which sort of sent me on this emotional rollercoaster of a ride. Through some of my writing pieces in this class, I was able to bring that emotion into those pieces and in my opinion, I genuinely think they made these pieces better as I was able to write with passion and heart.

I want to be able to show my audience the lessons I've learned in life and communicate that in a clear, honest, but tasteful manner. I want to share the way I see how relationships can prosper versus how they get damaged. I want to share the importance of acknowledging other's feelings. I want to do this by relating this to what I have personally experienced in my life, language that was designed to "motivate, persuade, or inform."
