IGN utilizes the strategy of embedding a video within their review. Doing this catches the eye of the viewer and keeps them on the webpage, which is ultimately the goal of an online reviewer. It also keeps them engaged and distracted from the idea of reading a long review about a movie they probably do not know much about.

Below is a segment of my online video review for "Red Wind".

Although slightly different than what IGN did, my use of an embedded video was effective in maintaining the interest of the viewer while providing necessary information to him/her. I quoted the scene in “Red Wind” when the drunk man at the bar says, “So long, Waldo.” Immediately after, I embedded a video clip of the exact moment when the drunk man shoots “Waldo” (this was not his real name) and says this statement. Rather than giving a complete video review like IGN did, I used the video to explain a particular aspect of my review, which I think is effective, but not as effective as what IGN did. Creating an interesting video review that is completely separate from the written review allows for the viewer to decide whether he/she wants to read or watch the review, which essentially guarantees to keep their interest in some way, thus proving to be an effective rhetorical strategy.
