Week 1 Self Assesment

This was my reflexive self assessment that I did in the beginning of the year to understand where I was standing in the beginning of the school year.

A way to describe myself as a writer is self-conscious. With the lack of experience coming into the Writing 39 series has been very much a blessing, helping me explore the lifelong experience of being a writer. My first class, Writing 39A, was definitely a confidence booster when it came to my writing potential. Mostly since I strongly believed any thoughts of me being a writer was a lost cause. Going to the writing center and receiving support from my professor was how I learned what exactly I needed to work on. Which where I left off as I came into Writing 39B. I was still uneasy mostly because of how much more work was required. But with sleepless nights, multiple Writing Center and office-hours visits I was able to reach the potential of passing the class with a decent grade. Throughout working through the 39 series I have seen my writing improve in other classes such as my Art History class where I had to explore being analytical in a different lens. In my public health class I also had to be analytical but again in a different lens. Being a double major of public health policy and art has put me in a position of a variety of lenses but there is such a exciting and intersecting themes to it. Being a writer is such an essential thing that I have always been afraid of, mostly how my writing was described when I was in high school, it wasn’t pleasant to say the least. One thing that I know is that I am determined to keep pushing my limits and keep reading and seeing the patterns and styles of different writers. I know that I have much to learn and thankfully with the help of the writing series I can target and analyze what I need to work on. I have understood that my writing is just a work in progress, rather that a lost cause. Even if I am still not a good writer, I am definitely a better writer.
