This peer review was the most beneficial to me because I received a lot of constructive criticism. I truly believe I had some strong points in my essay, but I also knew my essay was very weak in some areas. The weakest part of my essay was not including enough evidence throughout the body paragraphs and including an unrelated body paragraph. Adding more evidence was one of the easier fixes while completely changing a body paragraph wasn't. My peer, Iliana, informed me that my topic for that paragraph "sounds like a bland statement." Which is true because none of my evidence really connected with my thesis or the topic of the essay. At that point, I realized that that paragraph almost acted as a paragraph(an object to fill the page) to reach the page limit. My last body paragraph was suppose to be about how slavery was a controversial topic in BloodChild and how it influenced her writing. It was controversial because in the beginning of BloodChild she discusses how she wasn't going to sell her child for the benefits of the other species. And when we hear of a human being sold to another living organism, most of us think about slavery. However, it ended up being solely about slavery which then weakened my essay because it became disconnected from my thesis. As my peer informed me of the given weak topic, she then advised me to construct a new body paragraph to replace the one about slavery. Since we were writing our essay's on the same book, it was easier for us to help each other. Instead of writing about slavery, Iliana influenced me to begin to think about how Octavia Butler decided to move further away from traditional science fiction and closer to the new wave of science fiction (soft science fiction). Along with helping me get rid of the weakest paragraph in my essay, she also pointed out a couple of fallacies and that helped me make my essay more credible.
