"BloodChild" Thesis

In the beginning of this quarter, we numbered ourselves and got into groups. Within those groups, we constructed a thesis for BloodChild consisting of the five components: who, where, what, how, and why. We all stared at the board for three minutes before actually writing anything down. It then came to my mind that there is this format I followed in high school that has all the five components. It's called the précis format. The first sentence says the who and where. The second sentence states the how the author achieved the message, so what rhetorical devices they used to convey the message. The third sentence includes the why, why it's relevant to the outside world (the purpose). As we continued to construct this thesis, we hoped we had everything Professor Dowd wanted us to have and so we did. When she went around the class reading each groups thesis statements, ours was the one that wasn't lacking any of the five components. Although we did have a little of bit difficulty starting the thesis, it turned out to be what we needed it to be. Everything was easy flowing since we followed the précis format. Writing this thesis helped us for when it came to writing the rhetorical analysis essay, especially me since I chose to write on BloodChild. It was also a good way for this to boost my confidence up just a little bit because I know writing isn't my strongest suit, so to do something correct and use my prior knowledge made me really happy.
