that relates to their own life. The significance of this article is to provide more information to
people who haven’t listened to this album before and would like to check it out. This article is

them decide if they should listen to the full album.

“Evanescence, Fallen Album Review:”. Bettercallcreative (2020). Evanescence, Fallen
Album Review: – Better Call Creative

The main idea of this article is that the “Fallen” album brought more popularity to gothic
music during a time that these genres were not widely popular. The inference made by this
author is how adding softer tones with dark meanings helped create a different sense of mood
while listening. This article is credible because it is someone’s personal review of the album and
therefore everyone has their own opinion that could help others read what the songs did in
society during that time. The audience is people who like to listen to songs with a darker
meaning even if the tones are soft instead of intense screaming. Also, this album was sung by a
female lead which could inspire more women to get involved with gothic music. The
significance of this article was to provide a deeper analysis of the “Fallen” album and what
changes occurred after this release. This article is very useful because it can help curious readers
and fans of Evanescence to check out the album if interested.

Forbes, Sorrell. “’Born To Die’: Behind Lana Del Rey’s Life-Changing Debut Album”.
Udiscovermusic(2022). ‘Born To Die’: Behind Lana Del Rey’s Life-Changing Debut Album
(udiscovermusic.com)

The main idea of this article is how Lana Del Rey rose to the top with life experiences of
10 years that were important to her. The inference created by the author is that by adding more
depth into her music and singing about more serious topics helped Lana Del Rey rise to the top.
This article is credible because it depicts how some listeners interpreted her album and what life
experiences lead her there. The audience for this album is young adults who are going through a
hard time with love or family issues. The significance of this article is how raw emotions and
vulnerability can impact the listeners at home. The usefulness of this article is that after reading

Keefe, Micheal. “THE BRAVERY: THE SUN AND THE MOON”. PopMatters (2007). The
Bravery: The Sun and the Moon | PopMatters

The main idea of this article is how The Bravery chose to shift into more serious topics
and people are not taking them seriously. The inference made by the author is that this band is
like a “guilty pleasure” even mentioning that some of the songs are ridiculous. This article is
credible because there are different sources added to add more evidence for their claim. The
audience is adults who like to dwell on their sadness instead of listening to a more upbeat band.
The significance of this article is that after reading the review it makes fans of The Bravery not
want to listen to this album because it is shown as being different from the other kinds of music,
they have put out previously. The usefulness of this review is that it provides information about
the serious topics being di scussed and if you are not interested in those topics then it would
be better to listen to another band instead.

Proposal:
For my Imitation Project I wanted to create the Suburban Gothic Playlist. I wanted to add
music that has similar characteristics to the suburban gothic genre like unrequited feelings, fear,
and anxiety. To continue, I would also add context and background to each song while also
discussing tone, mood, and melodies. One of the ideas I had for a title was “Trapped inside
unrequited feelings” or “Anxiety Within”. The artists I chose to add to my playlist all share the
same feeling of not being wanted or having the fear of not fitting in with society. These albums I
have chosen range from daddy issues to suicide ideation. These topics combine with the
suburban gothic traits of the nuclear family, feeling anxiety, and not being part of the “normal”
society. Within the suburban gothic context there comes a time where the characters within the
story don’t feel safe being themselves and want a way out. My major claim and position are how
the suburban gothic genre can be found outside films and books and have similar traits to other
forms of communication. These outlines and brainstorming for the imitation project are still a
work in progress but I will continue to develop how I want to write the information for this project while discussing the sources mentioned above.
