A solid thesis should contain multiple parts, such as a position and rationale. My position is that hardboiled narration "reveals the anxieties contained within the post-war society" and my rationale (or "so what") is that this "subsequently displays noir's underlying philosophy that the world is engulfed in corruption". A particular audience should also be addressed in a thesis. I do this at the beginning of the sentence, where I state that the "readers of noir" may focus on certain characteristics of hardboiled detectives; however, I could have been more specific with the audience, which would have made the thesis more effective as a whole. Regardless, the position, rationale, and overall quality was effective because it gave insight as to what my paper would be about.
