RIP Worksheet 2: Audience and Context

I have changed my idea to a series that depicts the origins of bluebeard and his journey into becoming a monster. This adaptation will take place in modern day.

Majority Audience - Millennials

Age - (18-33)

-relatively unaffiliated with a specific religion

-most racially diverse generation

- this is because of large amounts of immigration

- about 50% of millennials are white, about 50% are nonwhite

- location of audience is determined by whether or not they can view Netflix from their location, so most countries are a possible audience except a select few such as North Korea

- sexuality is not applicable, it would not matter

- income of audience matters only if they cannot afford to pay for Netflix, if they have the funds for Netflix, their personal income does not matter

- Relatively unaffiliated with a specific political party

- 50% describe themselves as politically independent

- vote heavily on Democratic and Liberal views on many political and social issues

- majority are slow when it comes to marriage

- only 26% of millennials are married

- 69% say they would like to marry, but first they want a solid economic foundation

- much lower percentage of marriage than previous generations, when they were ages 18-33

- millennials have taken the lead in the digital era

- 81% of millennials are on Facebook

- only 19% say most people can’t be trusted

- 49% say the country's best years are ahead

- 51% of millennials say there won’t be any money in social security for them by the time they reach retirement age

- 61% oppose benefit cuts to address the funding problem of social security

- Millennials will appreciate the presence of strong feminine figures because the protagonist of my story will be a young woman

- The fact that my hero is a woman will attract an audience that has an interest in things that appeal to feminism

- Some of my audience will be unfamiliar with the folk fairy tale Bluebeard, but they are interested in a thriller

- Some of my audience will be familiar with the folk fairy tale Bluebeard

- but there is no prior knowledge that is absolutely necessary to understand the show, however you will appreciate the story more if you are familiar with the original tale written by Perrault  

- There is no main social issue presented in the show, it is mainly made to entertain and expand on the universe of the original tale in a way that pulls viewers through a modern adaptation. This adaptation still retains the theme of the female protagonist in the original bluebeard tale. However there is a much stronger feminism presented because in the original story the wife was helpless until her brothers (masculine figure) could save her, this adaptation will not follow the same path of “damsel in distress”. There is going to be the character of Bluebeard’s wife and another woman character who is a detective/police officer.

- The social norms of the Millennial generation may have a large influence on the characterization of the main protagonist in order to speak to this audience more directly, the character may exhibit traits that millennial may find relatable

- The increase in realism in thriller or horror genres may influence the popularity of the show

- The increase of the popularity of psychological thrillers may appeal to some people

A major theme in my show - the struggle between the American People (especially young America like the millennial generation) and President Trump. The chief of police and bluebeard will symbolize Trump, and the protagonist will symbolize young America,
