RIP Worksheet 2 was the first time I was ever asked to think about my audience. Then I had to determine the specifics of my audience after thorough research. I had never done research on my audience before, so this was a completely new kind of task for me. However this assignment opened my mind as a writer. It really conveyed to me the importance of audience because I realized that everything I write is going to be read by a certain demographic, even if I didn't plan for it. There will be a certain demographic who my writing appeals to no matter what, and having the ability to control who that demographic by tweaking my writing, ultimately makes me a better writer. Knowing how to cater to a specific audience will improve my delivery of an argument, because I am using specific rhetorical techniques to appeal to a certain audience in order to get a certain response back. Certain arguments will be more agreeable or relatable to an audience, therefore speaking to their interests, will capture their attention and further their understanding. Knowledge of audience may have been the most important practice of rhetoric that I have gotten from this class, because catering to your audience makes the most effective way to communicate your ideas.
