MESSAGE

  1. What is your message?

I will be teaching ghosts the steps to finding a relationship. I want to give them hope on finding love, and that love isn’t unattainable no matter how hard it seems. The step-by-step guide will show ghosts that finding a significant other requires time but will be worth it in the end. Although relationships are complex, the basic steps will give the ghosts a general idea on what to do.

  1. Why is this your message?

This is my message because these ghosts are lonely and desperate since they’re looking at a how-to guide for relationship advice. I don’t want to steer them in the wrong direction, so by planting hope in their hearts, they won’t give up and find love. When it comes to finding a relationship, there are basic steps that must be carried out that will sometimes result in a relationship. These ghosts who have no idea on what to do will find this guide helpful.

  1. What engages you about this topic?

I like to give people relationship advice and help them through their troubles. I also love seeing people in happy relationships because it’s cute and their happiness brings me happiness. I just want people to be happy and enjoy life instead of feeling sad.

  1. What engages your audience about this topic?

The ghosts that will view this wikihow article will be looking for advice on how to get someone they like. They want to be in relationship but don’t have experience in love. Maybe it’s their first time in this field, or the ghosts are feeling a bit lonely and want some affection, so they want to make sure they’re on the right path and doing everything right.

  1. Why does this matter?

This matters because love and relationships in general are important elements in most lives. Love often brings happiness and benefits one’s mental and emotional health. Good relationships help with personal growth and provide a stable foundation filled with support, understanding, and safety. Having relationships with other people is crucial for establishing special bonds and creating happiness.

  1. What are you new ideas (insights) in terms of this message? How are you thinking about this differently than others?

My new ideas for this message is to provide advice that go deeper into the relationship instead of just surface-level advice such as “make her laugh.” Asides from general advice, I will be sure to include advice that allows for deeper connections to occur and builds up the relationship with more trust and love. I feel like most how-to guides give the basics, but I want to be more detailed with my steps.

  1. Is your message arguable? Complex?

My message is arguable, but there are so many perspectives on love and relationships that aren’t just two sides to the argument. It’s a more complex idea, so some aspects I believe in may not agree with another person’s ideas.

  1. What is your purpose? Why?

My purpose is to instruct ghosts on how to find a relationship because some ghosts may need guidance in finding a significant other. How-to guides break down what seems complex into smaller, simpler steps that can be achieved and offer lots of information that will aid in reaching a goal. I want to help the audience find love and happiness, and give them hope that this isn’t the end of the world.

  1. How do you think you'll persuade your audience of that purpose?

I’ll persuade to the ghosts by using a hopeful tone and create a comforting mood using the tone of the guide and with pictures that are warm and happy. I’ll also try to use some of their language, although I’m not too sure of how ghosts talk. I’ll provide helpful advice that are simple, yet effective so the audience will still be hopeful in finding a significant other.

AUDIENCE

  1. What are the demographics of your audience?

My audience will be single, lonely ghosts looking for a relationship.

  1. What are the activities of your audience?

The activities of my audience are wandering around on the planet, longing for a partner, and crying/feeling sad.

  1. What are the interests of your audience?

The interests of my audience are getting into a relationship, finding love/a significant other, receiving attention, and being happy with their life.

  1. What are the opinions of your audience?

My audience will believe that love is out of their reach and can’t find love. They will also believe that finding a significant other is too complicated and don’t think it’s worth the effort.

  1. What might make your audience adversarial?

My audience might think that my advice isn’t helpful/necessarily true. I also don’t know how to address ghosts in a respectful way, so the language I use may be offensive.

  1. What are the means of persuasion that you might use to convince your audience of your particular message?

I will use a comforting tone to show that finding a partner is possible, be as informative as I can to establish some credibility, and I will try to relate to the audience by using ghost language and show them empathy.

  1. What samples and research did you use for your answers? Put your works cited here.

Chapman, Audrey B. Getting Good Loving: Seven Ways to Find Love and Make It Last. Agate, 2005.

“How to Get a Girlfriend.” wikiHow, www.wikihow.com/Get-a-GirlfriendLinks to an external site.. Accessed 18 Nov 2018.

  1. Add an annotation of two sources in your works cited above. Pick two you think might actually use in your RIP Essay.

The book I cited will help me give better insight as to what kind of advice I will include in my wikiHow article. It will also help establish my credibility.

The wikiHow article is my sample that I will reference to recreate a similar tone, style, and format for my own article.

REFLECTION

I remember seeing these assignments on canvas and died a little on the inside. Another long night was waiting for me. I had a very general idea of what my project was going to be, and answering these questions made me think about what I wanted to portray in my project and how I want to tie everything together. Doing this made me realize how much thought goes into these kinds of works, and not just school work, but everywhere in the world. Each choice has a purpose, and I had to consider every single detail to make sure my message was clear. This also pushed me to actually do my project in a timely manner and gave me a strong foundation of what I was to do. It also broke down this project step by step, tackling each aspect of rhetoric that we learned in this course: message, purpose, audience, and eventually social and historical context.
