As the RA essay was being introduced in class, I didn't feel as intimidated because my English classes in high school focused on rhetorical analysis essays. Throughout high school I was never confident in my writing because all of my friends knew how to incorporate advanced academic vocabulary along with writing various types sentences. I have always considered writing to be my weakest strength and math my strongest. With writing my biggest weakness was the analysis part of it. But coming into college and this class itself, the essay didn't seem as hard. The parts that didn't seem that complicating were identifying the rhetorical devices in the article, writing the thesis, and incorporating the evidence. However, I still found analyzing very hard. But as the course continued, I realized I was making it harder than what it actually is. Through Writing 39B, I improved on my analyzations because of our group discussions in class along with the discussions on Canvas. Another part I found difficult was connecting the thesis to the genre and historical context. I knew how to write the 'why' part of the essay, but it took me until the final draft to incorporate the genre and historical context and how that influenced the authors piece. The 'why' part in my introduction was also weak because I was being very vague due to the fact that I didn't know what to write. With the help of my peers and professor, I was able to construct a well written 'why' to my intro even though it took me until the final draft. In my opinion, the RA essay was one of the hardest assignments in Writing 39B. I thought I would have gotten a better grade than I received, but I do understand why I got the grade I did. I learned from that and made the other assignments in class better.
