Despite the limitations I had with writing in High School, my writing process has been quite dependable since then and continues to be my approach. I begin, as all do, by reading the instructions provided by the instructor. I mentioned in my Week 1 Self-AssessmentLinks to an external site., that I have a habit of writing down notes, directions, and outlines by hand. It is repetitive and some may see it as a waste of time and effort, but I feel more comfortable knowing that I have read through the directions and that I did not miss any details. Once I have completed my organizational notesLinks to an external site., I begin researching my topic. I typically start with a broad search to see the various ways that a particular topic is discussed. As I browse through, I will come across specific topics that I find interesting and use keywords from those articles to narrow things down. While researching, I keep a source documentLinks to an external site. open to copy and paste any quotes that I find useful, so that citing information will be easier during the writing process. Once I feel ready to move on, I usually sort through all the information and come up with a general thesis. This allows me to get a sense of what I want to discuss within the essay and move on to creating an outline of my argument. After I decide what I want to write about in each paragraph, I would color code all the quotes I have collected in my source documentLinks to an external site., so that they correspond with a particular area in my argument. My writing process has consisted of these steps for as long as I can remember, but recently I have put more effort into the research process. In my context project and advocacy project, I discuss what little regard video game addiction currently warrants. This underrated issue still faces skepticality from many of those who do not see it as a real addiction. I knew this meant that a strong counterargument and rebuttal would be necessary in strengthening my argument. Not only did I research evidence that supported my claim, but the other side as well. When I started my research for the advocacy project, I spent extra time searching for articles that were in favor of video games. This extra step that I decided to take in my research process ended up helping me a lot when it came to debating my case.
