Reflection #6

A quotation that really resonates with me from from Doug Downs' "Revision is Central to Developing Writing" is when he states "A writer at the end of their first draft now sees things they did not when they began, letting them “drive on” through another draft by writing what they would have said had they known at the beginning of the first draft what they now know at the end of it." I find this to be very true, the process of writing a draft allows you to move forward and expand on what you wrote in your next draft. You need that first draft as a starting point, but having that starting point does not mean you are done with your piece, but rather that you now have an initial draft to build upon. For my GA, I made sure to take breaks in between writing my drafts, so I did not feel stuck or that I was running out of ideas. Apart from in class peer review, I read my text to myself out loud which I felt helped greatly with the flow of the work and making sure that the sentence structure did not feel awkward. I also had friends from outside of my class peer review my work. I felt that both of these strategies greatly helped in the outcome of my GA, and plan to implement both of these strategies again in my IP. Two specific action items that I plan to revise in my IP are where I started a paragraph with this, which my peer reviewer stated "leaves room for misinterpretation", and to come up with a more catchy title for my project.
