In Writing 39 C, we are required to use different methods to do the research about the topic that we are interested in. I chose the topic of "Air Pollution in Northern China". In this course, we need to write two essays: Historical Conversations Project and Advocacy Project. It's true that Writing 39C focuses on critical reading and rhetoric and teaches you intellectual strategies for identifying, understanding, and then using various genres and rhetorical situations for important communicative purposes. In this 10 weeks' writing course, I did a lot of work according to what the professor told us to do and I also made great progress.

After writing down the introduction and self-assessment of ourselves to the whole class, we then started to work on defining a research topic that we were interested in. I brainstormed the news and information in my mind and listed several things that I was interested in. After examining all these things in my mind and in the listed website that professor provided to us,  17 Sustainable Development Goals http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/, I finally chose Air pollution and climate change in China as my topic. After receiving the evaluation from the professor, I then narrowed my topic to air pollution in Northern China, which was really a big move for me in developing my writing project. Then following the instruction, we wrote our HCP Abstract and Annotated Bibliography. This was really a good time for us to make the research of resources that we may need in the HCP. I also found four academic sources related to haze in Northern China. This step was also essential because the professor gave me the advice and his thoughts of my topic, abstracts and sources. After doing all the preparation, we then composed the HCP Rough Draft. For this part, I handed in my rough draft to our professor. It showed a lot of problems according to our professor's comments. I then realized that there were some major problems in my rough draft such as the problem of no multimodality resources, the mechanic errors of grammar, the unreasonable structure. These comments helped me made a great progress in my later papers. I then tried to correct all the errors that professor mentioned but I received 78/100 in the end.

After finishing the writing of HCP part, we were then asked to start writing our Advocacy Project. The first part was Defining Your Advocacy Project from HCP. Abstract and Bibliography was the second. Our professor still provided us very rational and useful suggestions according to our Abstract and Bibliography part. By correcting the problem of multimodality of resources, it seemed that the drafts of my AP were much better than my HCP drafts. We then handed in AP draft 1, AP draft 2, and AP Final draft week by week. After revising for several times, the final grade of my AP turned to 90/100, which was a high grade. The high grade showed that I made a great progress in these 10 weeks.
