One of the most memorable lessons I had in Writing 39C is when I had my appointment in the Writing Center with a staff member named Percival. In my meeting with Percival I explained how I was having trouble getting my solutions to flow all together as a whole product rather than it feeling like a basic problem and solution essay. Percival quickly grabbed a stack of papers and asked me to arrange a stack of just figures and put them in order in the way that they made sense to me. Puzzled I got to work in ordering the figures they looked like the image down below. When I was asked how I arranged them I said I arranged them by chronological order (one blobs, two blobs, three blobs), then I focused on the filling (stripes, and filled), the color (pink, green, purple) and lastly I focused on shape (oval or swirly). 

Once I explained that to Percival he said that that is how I see multilayers and instead of fillings, colors, shape and numbers, I should think of my main topics which ended up being retention, social-interactivity, and proactiveness and how they layer with my solution, problems and all of that should be layered through my analysis creating a multilayered essay. As a visual learner this was something that helped me learn the way I should think of my essays. In instead of think of it as a one layer problem and solution essay, I should think of it as a multilayered piece of writing. This went hand in hand with the process work that I was doing because I was having a hard time with flow and through the understanding of layering, with this simple task of putting blobs in order showed me visually how I should be piecing my essay together. Once I went back to my essay I understood that I should tae inconsideration of all my layers when it came to arranging my paragraphs, using my key concepts to create a comparative layer, and understanding also involving the layer of problem and solution but in a more complex way. This artifact represents one of my many experiences on learning if you ask for help you can get something valuable out of it. In this experience I didn't just learn the value of multilayering, I also learned the value asking for help from difference sources can make a difference to the piece being worked on. In the beginning of the 39 series I was afraid of asking for help, but I soon realized that asking for help is part of the writing process. Getting perspectives from other people is crucial mostly when I was constantly looking at the paper so it made perfect sense to me. But, that didn't mean that it made perfect sense to my audience. Evening having multiple people helping me helps so if someone recommends something and it doesn't make sense to me, maybe someone else's advice does and that's what makes a difference in the writing.
