One of the biggest struggles I had within this class was choosing my topic. There was just so much injustice to talk about that I was creatively blocked due to how overwhelming it was to be working with my initial topic: video games having an illusion of being authentic but in reality is it racist and has stereotypical objections. I was so passionate about this topic but through a workshop in class I learned how the reason why I was so blocked was due to me being too vague where there was no space to condense my writing where I can analyze it in a more narrow way. In the workshop Professor Shane asked us to narrow down our ideas and look for our key concepts we want to mention within our writing. So i decided to go back to my drawing board to look at the 3 topics I wanted to explore, take in mind the other two were equally as vague (seen below). Once I reviewed my topics I started to look in between the lines and see what the key concepts that I wanted to look at and highlighted them. Once I highlighted them I erased anything else that I had inputed within topics to just keep my main topics. Once my key concepts were narrowed I googles all my key concept together and started seeing a pattern...

...The pattern was that the topic of sexual harassment that happened to womxn within video games. Then, through a bit of research I realized my topic was going to be: how sexual harassment creates a toxic environment for womxn within video games. As you can see all the key concepts show up again within my HCP Prospectus and I highlighted them in the image above. As you can see in the before and after image is how the process worked, allowing myself to deconstruct and start over is part of the process work that is park of a writing a course. If I did this in the 39A series in week one I would of had some kind of panic attack thinking that I had to start over again. But now I see how this is part of the process and how it put me on the right tack instead of behind. Allowing myself to play around with the writing is how I was finally able to break though my creative block and actually get to work on Historical Conversations Project. With the stereotypes that professional writers should know how to structure things since their first draft is such a awful concept that was conditioned to many of us before college. I believe that is why I was so insecure of my writing it was due to my conditioning that my first draft has to be perfect but in reality it shouldn't be. The best part of writing is the process, the way that a piece can go into infinite directions but the writer has the power to make the decision to direct it the way they want to is powerful.
