LEVEL 5: HCP Reflection

I learned a lot about video game addiction in my HCP and the causes. I struggled with finding information about video game addiction in the past because video games were so new back then. The artifacts I provided were pictures of one of the first game consoles, data, and photos of boys playing video games in the past and present. I think my artifacts did get the important aspects of the problem I am studying because I tried to provide examples of different things. My first artifact was a picture of the first game console. I think this is important because that is the root of all the modern video games we have now. Then I chose a data table on how kids behave with teachers, friends, and parents. It was a comparison of addicted and non addicted students who argued with others. Lastly, I chose a picture of kids playing a video game in the 90’s and in the present. This was to show that nothing has changed and kids continue to be hooked on games regardless the time period.

The aspect of the problem that I would like to pursue better with evidence is how kids will continue to be video game addicts if it is not treated. It is important to treat any addiction so that it won’t take over a person’s life. Some exciting discoveries I have made is that video game addiction should be taken as serious as any addiction. I knew this type of addiction was possible but I did not know that it should be treated like any other addiction. The sources that made me refine my research methods were the studies that I found. It definitely proved my point that video addiction is real and has an affect on kids. My HCP was a work in progress so even though it didn't reach its full potential, it did improve. I admit that I could have done better but at the time I was unaware of how to correctly compose, revise, and edit.
