“Do Patients Understand? - PMC.” PubMed Central (PMC), https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3037129/. Accessed 18 Apr. 2022.

  • Suzanne Graham Rn and Ph.D. and also John Brookey MD. These authors are arguing that limited access to health services is a hidden epidemic and it can affect health outcomes, health costs, health status, and also health care use. They make a good point, stating that the whole system is standing on the assumption that patients can access and understand what they are being informed by medical professionals. These authors use Google Scholar, Pub Med, and government sites as their references. Overall, their evidence is articles, studies, and journals about the understanding of health communication.

When I looked back at my bibliography going from draft to draft I looked at the brief annotations I already made and it came to me that I could expand my thought on more things and not just what I have already said. I found the annotations really helpful because when I would do my revisions at the times I would be confused about what I intended to say and I could easily know what website to read over because of the explanations I wrote. It inspired more searches to add to my topic because when I explain the use of an article, study, or book. There would be things that I question and am like wait why did this happen? When did it start? And so I would think my reader/audience might have the same questions. So I do further research and mention it considerably.

Something I learned is that we write an annotated bibliography for a variety of reasons: It helps us evaluate the credibility and authority of our sources so that we can use the highest quality sources in our writing. To understand and be fully informed about a topic before making judgments and writing about it.

By writing an annotated bibliography, you are taking time to select sources on their own merits, assessing their relevance and credibility on your topic, before you attempt to make use of them. Moreover, research should be used by students to become more genuinely knowledgeable about the subject matter they research. Not until one is more knowledgeable about their topic should they begin to develop a thesis, a perspective, on that topic to write about. Thus, writing an annotated bibliography is a way to ensure that you have become sufficiently knowledgeable about your topic before you try to write about it; it is a way to make sure you are writing from a stance of expertise on the subject matter, which is a much more authoritative and persuasive stance from which to write.
