Presedential Poster and Platform Analysis

Other struggles I had included the format for the poster and what kind of image I want to put into the mind of my readers. So after I searched though many pictures I ended up with a picture of T'Gatoi hugging Gan as a symbol of a mutual relationship where the two are helping each other. I specifically avoided a picture with T'Gatoi hugging Gan with her  cage like limbs because that would send the wrong message of imprisoning a human like he/she was property. In the poster, I used big words like "for equality" to make a reference to both worlds. In the case of Bloodchild, it was a reference of equality for the Tlics and the humans. On the other hand, in reality it was meant to reference gender equality between males and females given our current society. However, through consulting with my professor I realized that my poster lacked context. So I decided to add on a platform to my poster and talk about how T'Gatoi plans to reform the corrupt society currently in place. The platforms adds context to my project and creates more quotes I can reference to in the future as I write my essay and argue about the case of equality among species/gender.

In the platform I used mostly logos to make my arguments on how the lack of equality can be fixed in order to prevent tragedies like what happened to Lomas. I also used pathos by talking about how it is better to make a better future for our children. By using children I can inspire the emotional feelings of the reader and furthermore make them agree with the platform so that their child would not have to relive the horrors we have been through. Lastly, I also thought this theme is a really fitting theme for the text I chose because it relates to the author of the text. Octavia Butler suffered though many traumatic experiences in her past because she was subject to both racial and sexual discrimination, and she wrote Bloodchild with all the gory details in an attempt to make the readers experience the horrors she felt while being discriminated against. Thus, by using her work as the basis of my project I can also appeal to the readers on how they should strive to end discrimination after feeling what Butler experienced Bloodchild.

I specifically wrote about a major that occurs in the world of Bloodchild, which is that humans are treated as property instead of actual living creatures. Tlics sting the people to get them drugged up in their free time and makes a designated cage for humans to live within so they cant go anywhere. With all these limitations on the freedom of humans, people really can't do anything they want, even if it is something along the lines of helping out a family member. If people are treated as equals with Tlics, people can actually do what they desire and help out when the time comes which will prevent tragedies like what happened to Lomas. I also made reforms that agree well with some secondary sources I found so that when I incorporate them both into my essay my work would still be smooth and not choppy. For every problem stated in my platform I supplied many solutions that would end discrimination for the world of Bloodchild, and similar solutions could be used for the real world to end gender discrimination problems we face today.
