Data Bases

The data bases shown below were the three most helpful data bases that I used throughout this quarter for my HCP and my Advocacy Project. I used all three because whenever I was not able to find or access a scholarly article in one of these data bases I was able to go to another one an access it. One of the struggles that I had using the data bases and that these screenshots below show is the use of my unspecific search terms.

Comment 1: This screenshot was at the beginning of the quarter when I started doing research on my topic. As you can see I only used one search term which was "welfare queen." Because it was general I was able to obtain some scholarly articles regarding that topic but the scholarly sources that obtain were not as helpful in explaining the effect of the stereotype. It just focused more on the history. However, those initial scholarly articles that I did find were able to help me discover new search terms by looking at the footnotes.

Comment 2: The screenshot above shows google scholar and some of the search terms that I used when researching scholarly sources for my HCP. Even though the search terms that are seen above are not the best search terms I was able to improve a bit from the initial search terms that I used. Out of academic search complete, jstor and google scholar, google scholar was the data base that I used the most because it made more sources available to me unlike academic search complete or jstor. With google scholar, articles that at least contained one of the search terms that I used was able to give me a variety of sources but with academic search complete if I would use words that did not appear together in scholarly journals "a no search found" would appear. Which would often get me frustrated.
